House Masilela

Location: Waterkloof, Gauteng, South Africa
Date: 2022
Construction Area: 602m²
Status: under construction
Scope of work: Design & Project Architect
The brief on this project was twofold: address major structural and water damage to the roof of the existing house, and upgrade the property to better suit the owner's current lifestyle and needs. A first floor was added, accommodating a luxurious master bedroom placed to take advantage of a prime view over Waterkloof Ridge, as well a study and pyjama lounge, with access to a rooftop terrace. The ground floor was adjusted to allow for 4 bedrooms, and an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area. The design fits mostly within the footprint of the original structure, reducing the requirement for earthworks on this steep site. The original home had seen many alterations and additions over the years, and a key objective was to 'round off' the envelope for a more cohesive, considered end result.
