Designed in collaboration with MSW Architects, this proposal for a new gate house at Blue Valley Golf Estate was required to accommodate 400m² office space for the home owner's association, a gate house with office space and amenities for guards, 3 lanes in and 3 out, as well as an area for contractor vetting. The new vision for the estate meant a move away from the Tuscan aesthetic - a contemporary look and feel was required, that would still blend and not compete with the existing architecture.
Inspired by the 4m change of height between gatehouse and office areas, we designed two buildings under one sweeping roof, wrapping around an existing tree on the site. The canopy would be constructed with cladded steel trusses, the keep the structure light. The top floor of the gate house aligns with the HOA offices, which may be accessed via landscaped steps, or via a parking area at the back. The HOA office overlooks the estate and surrounding hills from it's high vantage point. Neutral materials and colours in keeping with the estate guidelines tie the design in with the existing, while the iconic yet not overly elaborate form speaks to the future of the estate.
